What you get, every month

Every report and every filing rests on four jobs, done every month.

The heavy lifting, off your plate

Every transaction sorted

Each deposit, expense and transfer is coded to the account it belongs in, so the chart of accounts matches how you run the business.

Numbers you can trust

Every account reconciled

Bank and card statements matched to the books line by line, to the cent, so errors and duplicates are caught before they compound.

Know who owes you

Invoices out, payments recorded

You always know who owes you and how long it's been out. Collecting stays between you and your customers.

Nothing paid without your say

Bills checked, paid when you say

Bills are recorded as they arrive. Nothing leaves your account until you approve it, and Plooto moves the money.

How a month runs

Four jobs, done every month, without you having to chase anyone.

  1. Monthly books and statements

Transactions categorized and reconciled on a set schedule, and a balance sheet and profit and loss sent to you every month.

  2. Payroll, ready for your approval

Each pay run is worked out from the hours you send and ready before payday. The payroll software is included in your plan.

  3. GST and PST, filed on schedule

Returns prepared and filed before each deadline, monthly, quarterly or annually, whichever schedule you're on.

  4. Year-end, ready for your CPA

Receipts organized, ledgers closed, and the working papers packaged: year-end preparation for handoff to your CPA.

Your portal

We don't just send reports. We help you read them.

Your books live in a portal you can open any time: cash, what's owed to you, what you owe, and the month's statements. Each month we send the numbers with a few lines on what they mean, and we answer when you ask.

  • A short note with every month

What changed, what to watch, and what we need from you, in plain words, on top of the statements.

  • Ask about any number

Every figure opens to the transactions and the receipt behind it. Ask us about any of them and you'll hear back from a person.

  • Your books, always yours

Export everything whenever you like. Leaving is a button, never a negotiation.

Our promise

Your reports by the 15th, or that month's package is free.

Get us your receipts and answers to our questions by the 5th, and last month's statements are in your portal by the 15th. If they're late, that month's package fee is free. No forms to fill in: we'll take it off the next invoice ourselves. Payroll, invoice and bill work, and anything passed on at cost, are billed as usual.

Who's on your books

A real person, who knows your business.

One bookkeeper keeps your file, month after month. That's who reconciles your accounts, runs your payroll, and answers when you write, so you never explain your business twice.

Liam

Founder and bookkeeper

I've worked in construction, laying out buildings on site, and I've run two businesses of my own: an exterior detailing company and a volumetric concrete mixer company. So I know the books from the owner's side, the receipts in the truck and the invoices done at the kitchen table at night, and I know how much time a good bookkeeper gives back. That's why I started Tallyforth: so owners across BC can hand that part to someone who gets it.

When I'm not in the books, I'm usually up a mountain, out on the Steveston trails with my dog, or losing golf balls somewhere in the Okanagan.

Behind on your books?

That's most people. We start where you are.

A shoebox of receipts, a year without a reconciliation, a GST return you've been avoiding: none of it surprises us, and none of it needs an apology. We sort it out in order and tell you what it costs first.

How catch-up works
  1. A look at where things stand

If your books need a look, a $225 records assessment counts what's there. It's credited to the work if you go ahead.

  2. One fixed price

Priced from the work and quoted before you commit, so the clean-up can't run on and on.

  3. Then we keep you current

The backlog closes, and monthly bookkeeping keeps it from happening again. Onboarding stays free.

What we do, month to month and at year end

We do your monthly books, payroll, and GST and PST filings ourselves. At year end we close the books and prepare everything for handoff to your CPA, so their work starts from clean, reconciled numbers.

Handled in-house, every month

  • Monthly bookkeeping and reconciliation
  • Payroll, worked out and ready for your approval
  • GST and PST returns
  • Receivables and payables
  • Catch-up and clean-up projects

Year-end preparation for handoff to your CPA

  • Final reconciliation and year-end adjusting entries
  • CCA schedule and shareholder loan reconciliation
  • Trial balance and working papers, packaged for your CPA

This is probably a good fit if…

  • You run a small business in BC: a shop, a studio, a practice, a crew, or a few rentals.
  • Your books haven't been touched in a few months, or you're not totally sure.
  • You need payroll handled without hiring in-house.
  • You'd rather pay a package price that's fixed each month than an hourly rate that changes when a month gets busy.
  • You want next tax season to start from clean books.

A few minutes, no sign-up. If we're not the right fit, we'll say so.

…and probably not if

  • You want someone to prepare and file your income tax return. We prepare year-end for your CPA; the return is theirs.
  • You need a one-off afternoon of hourly help rather than someone on your books every month.
  • You already have a finance team in-house and want a controller or CFO.
  • You'd like us to chase your customers for payment. Collecting stays between you and them.
