Bookkeeping for Victoria and the South Island

Victoria's small businesses sit beside the provincial government and a growing tech sector, and a lot of them sell time: consultants, agencies, developers, and professionals. We keep the books monthly, run payroll, file GST and PST, and coordinate the year-end return with a licensed CPA, for a flat monthly fee rather than by the hour.

Common in Greater Victoria books

Consulting and professional services firms make up a large share of the capital region, many of them working on contracts for the Province and its agencies. Their books turn on unbilled work, retainers, and invoices that are earned in one month and paid in another, so revenue has to be recorded when it is earned, not when the cheque clears.

The Inner Harbour brings a seasonal hospitality and tourism trade, and the West Shore — Langford, Colwood, and Sooke — has some of the fastest residential building in the province, which keeps trades and contractors busy across several municipalities at once.

What we handle for Victoria businesses

Consultants & agencies

Work in progress and retainers tracked so revenue lands in the month it was earned, and receivables aged so nothing is forgotten.

Tourism & hospitality

Seasonal staff added and removed cleanly, deposits for future bookings held as liabilities, and liquor PST kept separate.

West Shore trades

Job costing per site, vehicle records, and T5018 subcontractor reporting across Langford, Colwood, and beyond.

Local licensing: Businesses in the capital region are licensed by the municipality they operate in — the City of Victoria, Saanich, Langford, and the others each issue their own — so a business working across the region may need more than one.

Common questions

We're on the Island. Does that change anything?

No. Everything is remote: statements and receipts come in digitally, payroll is approved online, and reports go out the same way. A client in Saanich works with us exactly as one in Vancouver does.

We invoice the Province on net-30 terms. When is that revenue recorded?

When the work is done and invoiced, not when the payment arrives. The invoice sits in receivables until it is paid, so your profit and loss shows the month you earned it and your ageing report shows what is still out.

Do we charge GST to a provincial ministry?

Generally yes — the Province pays GST on most goods and services it buys, and the ministry recovers it on its own side. Your invoice is prepared the same way as any other, with GST shown and remitted on your return.
